UX writing fundamentals

Do words get tangled up in the grid during prototyping? Do texts in the interface attract more attention than your ideas during design reviews? Does marketing demand witty messages? Does everyone expect coherent and understandable messages? Or maybe you just want to expand your skills?

Don't give up! Writing is hard, but it can be tamed. Learn how to control words in your product. Practice how to create content for SaaS, mobile, and desktop application interfaces. See how to reach the user, how to weigh your words, and when to joke.

What's on the agenda?

This two-day hands-on training is an ideal mix of practice and theory. We'll go through all aspects of creating communication in the user interface (UI). We will discuss:

  • the key factors of effective communication

  • voice and tone — character in communication

  • plain language

  • inclusion and accessibility

  • microcopy secrets — error messages, hints, empty states, summaries, instructions

  • form design — labels, field texts, hints, help

  • buttons

  • product dictionary

  • testing and checking of content effectiveness

  • tasks and specifics of the work of UX writers

I focus on learning by doing. Get ready for a large dose of practical exercises.

  • match messages to the character of the brand

  • know how to design the perfect message (they know the secret recipe!);

  • understand when brevity is beneficial and when it's not

  • stand by their content decisions in discussions with people managing projects

  • they are disgusted by lorem ipsum – they believe that placing good content in mockups makes sense

  • can check if their content works
